The Functional Medicine approach addresses very basic mechanisms in the body, rather than disease categories, and enables us to help in a very wide range of chronic inflammatory, autoimmune, age-related and degenerative disorders. The conditions listed below are our areas of greatest interest and experience.
- Arterial Disease
- Hormonal Problems
- Digestive Disorders
- Chronic Pain
Many people seek help with stresses that they recognize and would like to escape from. What is most striking, however, is that in the widest range of problem conditions, stress and its management are crucial factors that determine the outcome. Our programmes recognize that people are different, so we use several different methods to help you release the stress and heal.
Irritable bowel syndrome
We use sensitive testing of the function of the heart and arterial system to detect early stages of imbalance, to identify levels of inflammation, toxicity, and disordered energy production that impair arterial function. While patients continue with standard treatment from their GP, Cardiologist and Vascular surgeon, we support innate repair and regeneration mechanisms to improve function and, if all goes well, make major interventions unnecessary.
High blood pressure
Ischaemic heart disease
Arterial disease in the legs
In both men and women, we look at the many web-like interactions and related systems that affect the ever-changing (homeodynamic) balance of hormones. Thyroid, adrenal and reproductive dysfunction as well as diabetes can result when the balance is lost. The endocrine system is built to respond to stimuli and to communicate information within the body. By identifying inappropriate stimuli and correcting disruptive information, we encourage a restoration of healthy function within the system. In those less common instances where replacement with hormones is needed, we use bio-identical replacement as a first choice.
Reduced erectile function
It is hard to think of an organ system with more profound and far-reaching effects on all aspects of health than the digestive system. The gut is vulnerable to many influences from food, toxins, infections and irritants; it affects and is affected by our psychology and physiology in multiple ways. Standard treatments often fail to relieve symptoms fully, and detailed evaluation of function, combined with individually tailored treatment is required to improve the situation.
Irritable bowel syndrome
Wind and bloating
Leaky Gut conditions
A practical definition of chronic pain is ‘pain lasting beyond the expected period of healing’. Our approach is to examine the obstacles that have impaired healing, as well as the changes produced by the pain, that keep it in place. Treatments include nutritional and detoxification therapies, acupuncture and acupressure, manual therapies, microcurrent electrotherapy, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, and mind-body treatments.
Arthritis (degenerative and autoimmune)
Measuring and improving your cellular condition (better known as biological age) is the best form of preventive medicine in this part of the world. It is the great strength of Functional Medicine, our area of greatest interest, and represents the greatest value we can give you for your life.
If you do not see your problem listed above, please discuss it with us anyway, because our approach may well be able to help you.
